The new Mazda3 SKYACTIV scheduled for fall 2011
This will offer a new SKYACTIV gasoline engine and an automatic transmission
Everything is possible in the Mazda exhibit area of the 2011Canadian International Auto show. The 2012 Mazda 3 SKYACTIV will be presented in its grand premier, besides being remodeled, it will also offer the option of a new SKYACTIV-G gasoline engine and a new SKYACTIV-speed automatic gearbox from Mazda, when it launches later this fall.
This first application of SKYACTIV engine and gearbox technology on a production vehicle will create more torque at low and medium rpm resulting in better handling and better fuel economy in everyday driving. Mazda Motor Corporation has worked on the design of these new SKYACTIV technologies, which include new elements of engine and transmission, and new vehicle architectures in recent years.
Mazda SKYACTIV technologies will be launched successively in 2011, starting with the new engine and the new automatic gearbox. Mazda said its goal was to improve the fuel consumption of its vehicles by 30% in 2015 (compared to 2008 levels). This will be accomplished through SKYACTIV technologies, which focus on improving the effectiveness of technologies at the heart of the internal combustion and reducing vehicle weight. Also, electrical devices, such as hybrid systems, idle stop and regenerative braking, will be phased in order to further improve fuel consumption and reduce CO2 emissions.
In addition to all the benefits of the new SKYACTIV engines and gearboxes, the 2012 Mazda3 will be equipped with new bumpers front and rear and a grille, hubcaps headlights and fog lights, all remodeled. The new 16 and 17 inche alloy wheels round out the exterior changes for the 2012 model year.
